A home in southwest Coweta was destroyed and another near Newnan moderately damaged in separate residential fires over the weekend, say Coweta County Fire Department officials.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Bill Haynes, a two-story, wood-frame home on Mountain Brook Road -- located near Corinth and just off Coweta-Heard Road in the southwestern part of the county -- began burning around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Haynes said firefighters arrived on the scene to find the structure already fully involved in flames.

Although fire personnel from Station 11 in Grantville and Station 4 in Moreland battled the blaze for an hour, Haynes said the home was ultimately deemed a total loss. Nobody was in the residence when the flames broke out, he said, and no injuries were reported.

Another home fire on Logwood Lane in one of the White Oak neighborhoods near Shenandoah Boulevard and Forest Road broke out about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Haynes said. He said the single-story, wood-frame structure was moderately damaged by the flames, which appear to have ignited in the garage.

Firefighters from Station 6 on Turkey Creek Road and Station 12 on Ebeneezer Church Road responded to the incident and had the blaze extinguished within 30 minutes, Haynes said. Residents inside the home at the time of the fire got out safely, he said.

One firefighter reportedly received burns on his hand and was treated by emergency personnel on the scene.

Neither fire appears suspicious in nature, Haynes said. Both incidents remain under investigation by the county fire marshal.
