Mrs. Mary Horton Burnham
Mrs. Mary Horton Burnham, age 86, of Sargent, Ga., died July 26, 2008 at Savannah Court of Newnan. Mrs. Burnham was born June 24, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Robert Jehile and Lorena Dale Horton. Her parents and all of her siblings preceded her in death. Her husband, Joe Nelson Burnham died in 2000. Also preceding her in death was a son-in-law, David Clark. Mrs. Burnham, as did so many of her contemporaries, worked in the textile mills for most of her life. She was a long time and devoted member of Sargent Baptist Church. Family and friends were most important to Mrs. Burnham and she is survived by her daughter, Brenda Burnham Clark; and a son, Bobby Burnham and his wife Floye. Her grandchildren are Brooke Dailey, Beth Burnham and Rob Burnham. Her brother-in-law and sister-in-law are Hamp and Katherine Burnham; another brother-in-law is Harold Burnham and other sisters-in-law are Margaret Majors and Clara Burnham. There are two great grandchildren, Ashley and Zack Dailey. During these last years of declining health, Mrs. Burnham's family has been steadfastly supported by a devoted caregiver, Leona Hayes. In addition, there is a larger family of nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street where the funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Dr. Bob Atkins and Reverend Stacy Stafford will officiate. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Burnham's memory to the Sargent Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 189 Sargent, GA 30275.
