Lucas Gangi, 30, of Sharpsburg, was killed Thursday morning when the driver of a car pulled in front of his motorcycle at the intersection of Palmetto-Tyrone Road and Minix Road in north Coweta County.

The accident occurred at 7:37 a.m., according to Lt. John LaChance of the Coweta County Sheriff's Office.

Gangi was traveling eastbound on Palmetto-Tyrone Road on a 2006 Suzuki C90 motorcycle.

Richard Schroeder, 57, of Sharpsburg, was stopped northbound on Minix Road at a stop sign. Schroeder was driving a 2000 Chrysler Sebring, according to LaChance.

Schroeder attempted to make a left turn headed westbound on Palmetto-Tyrone Road when he failed to yield the right-of-way to Gangi, according to LaChance.

"Gangi tried to take evasive action, even laying the bike down, but he was struck by the vehicle," said LaChance.

Gangi was transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities don't know at this time whether charges will be filed in the accident, according to LaChance.

The accident is being investigated by Deputy Ty Thompson.
