Newnan Mayor Keith Brady and councilmen Rhodes Shell and Ray DuBose will be up for re-election in the fall, and Tuesday evening the Newnan City Council will vote on resolutions naming the qualifying dates, the election superintendent and the assistant superintendent.
Council will vote on a resolution opening qualifying for the mayoral race and districts B and E at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 31. The closing of qualification time will be 4:30 p.m. Sept. 2.
Council members will also consider a resolution appointing Jane Scoggins election superintendent and Della Hill the assistant election superintendent for the Nov. 3 general election.
Also during the meeting, council will review a request from Mike Furbush, the staff liaison for the Newnan Youth Activities Commission, to the city for funding. The commission is in charge of overseeing the Newnan Youth Council by determining the needs and concerns of the youth; expose and educate the youth to the operations of their local government; and to assist the city's youth in dealing with issues affecting them.
The commission has now interviewed, selected and contacted the 16 high school students who will comprise the inaugural Newnan Youth Council. The students will assume their responsibilities in early August.
The commission has no source of funding currently available, according to Furbush's correspondence. The commission is requesting $2,500 in funding to get the youth council up and running for the remainder of this year.
On Tuesday, council will also consider a request from Tin Roof Films to shoot portions of "The Fat Boy Chronicles" in downtown Newnan Aug. 3-5.
