The Heritage Lady Hawks beat Georgia Christian, 8-0, in the first round of the GISA Class AA state soccer tournament last weekend.
Heritage quickly took control of the game and led 6-0 at halftime.
Chelsea Rierson, Emily Gray Powell and Layna Carnicom each scored two goals for the Lady Hawks while Katie Kaufmann and Allie Gruber added one each.
Gruber and Kaufmann had two assists apiece while Powell and Gruber had one each.
“This was a very easy game for us,” said Heritage coach Ron Rineer.
“But it was a game we needed to win to advance to the next round. Our goal from the beginning was to win our region and play on May 24th, the date of the state final.
“We need to continue to improve and work to achieve that goal.”
The Lady Hawks face Trinity of Dublin in the second round on Friday at 7 p.m.
“They have a very solid team,” Rineer said. “They are well coached and they’ll be ready to play.”
The winner advances to the Final Four with the semifinals scheduled for next Tuesday in Macon.
