Keep supporting commissioners

Sometimes doing the right thing can be inconvenient, unpopular and expensive. But, at the end of the day, if you can look in the mirror and know you made the best decision for all the right reasons, you are successful.

I believe we all saw first-hand how our elected commissioners stood up and did the right thing when they voted to reject Starship's business license. They listened to their constituents and voted to do what is right for our community. We have all heard there is a time and place for everything, and the place for Starship is not at their requested location.

Each commissioner received hundreds of calls and e-mails from citizens that expressed our desire to keep Starship from locating its business across from a church, a preschool and a fast-food restaurant that serves many children and young adults.

Now the hard part comes. For the taxpayers of Coweta County, this will ultimately mean some high legal fees. Our tax dollars will be needed to uphold and support this decision. The county will undoubtedly be served with a lawsuit from Starship.

As this unfolds, each of us needs to continue to support our elected officials and county staff. They need to know that we will continue to support them as they begin the tough legal battle ahead. Our commissioners made the tough decision that is in the best interest of each citizen of our great community. We owe them a debt of gratitude.
