The Scholastic Book Fair is back at Glanton Elementary School -- with a Valentine twist.
Book fairs are a staple at schools in the local area, offering youngsters a chance to select books for themselves and raising money for media centers. The Book Fair at Glanton in Grantville began Monday and continues today and Thursday from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m.-noon.
As usual, the book sale offers a wide range of paperbacks of interest to elementary age children. Teachers at Glanton have also submitted their wish lists.
If a parent or grandparents buys a book for a child's classroom, it becomes part of the classroom library for that teacher.
"We place a plate on the inside saying it's from the child and what year," said Lori Mayes, media specialist at Glanton.
Glanton is also offering parents and grandparents a chance to support the Book Fair and give a Valentine surprise that will be read and enjoyed. Donors can buy a book for a child at Glanton and fill out a note for the child.
Mayes said the Valentine books and notes will be placed in decorated bags. "We'll deliver them the Friday before Thanksgiving," she said.
