Crusaders cruise past Golden Acres

Golden Acres picked the wrong week to travel to Heritage Christian School with jerseys that read LIONS across the front.
A week after a disappointing loss to another set of football Lions in Trinity Christian, just three miles away, Heritage Christian may have taken its frustrations out on Golden Acres in a 74-34 victory.
Justin Hurler rushed for 127 yards and accounted for four touchdowns while quarterback Drew Davis threw for five scores, as Friday's 8-man football game played out like a pro playing Madden '09 on the Playstation3.
Golden Acres, which is dominated by homeschool students out of Phenix City, Ala., found itself trailing 38-0 almost as quickly as they got off the bus, as Crusaders quarterback Drew Davis threw for five touchdowns, including four in the first half in the victory that pushed Heritage Christian's record to 2-2 in the West Region and 3-4 overall.
The Lions (1-4, 1-5) managed to cut the gap to 46-22 at halftime, only to watch the hosts score on their first-two possessions of the third quarter to put the game out of reach. Two plays after Davis hauled in his second interception of the game on a one-handed grab, Brandon Hurler rumbled in from 37 yards for the last of his three rushing touchdowns and a 30-point lead.
Hurler and brother Austin combined for four Heritage Christian touchdowns in the first half, each pulling in touchdown passes from Davis. Matt Witz had Davis' other two touchdown throws before halftime.
Blaze Sherman also scored twice for the Crusaders. His first touchdown run from 18-yards out capped a 38-0 lead in the first quarter before Golden Acres capitalized on back-to-back Heritage Christian turnovers to finally get on the scoreboard.
In the closing minute of the third period following a Golden Acres fumble, Sherman took a short pass on a bootleg from Davis and scored from 18-yards out to complete the scoring.
Robert Culmo had the Crusaders other second-half touchdown, finishing off a drive on a pair of runs from the 8-yard line after Hurler left the game with an injury on a 25-yard run. The only time Heritage Christian touched the ball in the fourth quarter was to kneel four straight times in the midst of a running clock.
