From Special Reports
Coweta County elementary schools’ release time was delayed by Wednesday’s inclement weather.
Dismissal of all Coweta elementary schools was delayed because of emergency management warnings of severe weather and hazardous driving conditions affecting Coweta and surrounding counties Wednesday afternoon. The hazardous conditions warnings coincided with elementary school dismissal.
Student dismissal was delayed from 2:30 p.m. until 2:55 p.m. at all county elementary schools. Three schools in southeastern Coweta County – including Poplar Road, Willis Road, and Eastside elementary schools – had their school dismissal times delayed until after 3:00 p.m. because of severe weather warnings persisting in that area of Coweta County.
These delays included car pick-up and bus release at elementary schools. The elementary bus schedule delays affected pick-ups and release times for buses at middle and high schools later in the afternoon.
The school system expected delays in bus arrivals from elementary, middle and high schools of up to an hour or more Wednesday afternoon because of the weather delays.
The dismissal delays were implemented to ensure student safety.
