Brewers win opening game

The Sharpsburg Brewers trailed twice Saturday but when it counted they had an 11-4 win over the Old National Yankees in a first round game in the AABC 13U State Tournament at Andrew Bailey Park.
The Brewers will play the North Henry Titans in a winners bracket game this morning at 10:00 while the Yankees will move into a losers bracket game.
The Yankees took advantage of miscues in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead but the Brewers came back in the bottom of the third as Blake Perkins led off with a solo home run along the first base line to tie the game at 1-1.
However, the Yankees would regain the lead in the top of the fourth inning with two runs from a walk, an error and a single with one out on the frame and threatened to add more to the lead but Brewers starting pitcher Cole Garvin left two runners on base with a pair of strikeouts to keep the score at 3-1.
After leaving runners on base through the first three innings, the Brewers became the aggressors in the bottom of the fourth inning as they scored three runs to take a 4-3 lead.
Buddy Green opened the frame with a walk and an out later Garvin reached on an infield error while Perkins followed with a single to load the bases.
A fielders choice scored Green and Perkins was forced at second to cut the margin to 3-2 before Caleb McElwanney singled to left field to bring Garvin and Julian home with the go ahead runs.
Garvin allowed the tying run to score with two outs in the top of the fifth inning but the Brewers came back in the bottom of the frame as 11 batters came to the plate and seven scored.
With one out Jacob Mann would score the go ahead run when the left fielder mishandled Garvin's single while Perkins followed with a two-run single that scored Alex Rakestraw and Garvin.
Perkins led the Brewers in hitting for the game with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate scoring twice and recording three RBIs.
Another run would come home on an infield error and Shawn Daniel would close the inning for the Brewers with a two-run single.
Garvin was the beneficiary of the support as he made it through the top of the sixth inning with only one baserunner as the game was called due to a two hour time limit.
In six innings, Garvin allowed four hits and walked three along with recording six strikeouts and inducing nine groundouts.
Besides the Brewers' second round game, there will be the second day of the 9U tournament at Andrew Bailey while Little League Baseball is holding the second day of their district tournament in Peachtree City.
Involved in the LLB tournament are teams from Senoia and West Point in a variety of age groups.
