GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) – Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove tells The Sun Herald dental records of a man reported missing from Georgia could help identify remains of a man found floating in the Mississippi Sound.
Hargrove says a fisherman was checking crab pots just before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday when he found a man's body near Gulfport.
The Gulfport Fire Department and Coast Guard sent boats with divers to recover the body.
Authorities learned a man from Georgia had been reported missing, and his vehicle was found near the beach parked along U.S. Highway 90.
Hargrove says the man's family is sending dental records to the coroner's office to see if the records identify the remains as their loved one.
The cause of death has not been released.
