CPR course

Sept. 13

Help to save a life by becoming certified in CPR and First Aid. The American Red Cross Coweta County Chapter will be conducting an Adult CPR, Infant CPR, Child CPR, AED and First Aid Class on Saturday, Sept. 13. This course combines CPR and first aid training to teach participants how to: recognize and care for breathing, choking and cardiac emergencies in infants, children and adults; Perform first aid for cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, bleeding, sprains and strains; minimize the effects of shock; recognize emergencies and take action, and understand the role of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in the Chain of Survival.

The class will start at 8:30 a.m. and be held at the chapter office, located at 770 Greison Trail, Suite G, Newnan. The cost of the entire course is $55 and prepayment is required to reserve a slot. Pilgrim to speak at Cancer Support Group meeting

Volunteers for the Cancer Support Group (CSG) of Coweta County announce final plans for the Sept. 10 meeting to be held at 10 a.m. in Room 129C at First Baptist Church of Newnan. The church is located at 15 West Washington St.

The speaker for the September meeting will be Phil Pilgrim, ministry resource consultant with the Georgia Baptist Convention for Faith Riders. It has always been tradition to begin the CSG season of programs by having in inspirational speaker and every one is invited to hear Rev. Pilgrim.

The September meeting is a time to welcome friends, cancer patients and their families. Following programs to be held during 2008-09 will address problems faced in obtaining cancer treatment and medications, good nutrition, transportation for patients and other topics that become relevant. Special events include the Holiday Luncheon to be held on Dec. 3. All meetings are planned to include time for sharing, questions and conversation along with refreshments.

The Support Group welcomes cancer survivors, their caregivers, family, friends, and anyone who would like to learn more about life after cancer while enjoying the caring and fellowship of others.

Summit Family YMCA to have driving course

The Summit Family YMCA will sponsor the AARP Driver Safety Program classes on Tuesday and Thursday, Sept. 23 and 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Learn defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws, rules of the road and much more in this 8-hour course.

Find out how to adjust your driving to age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time. Participants may be able to get an insurance discount from auto insurance companies who operate in the state of Georgia.

There are no tests in the course.

The cost is $10 per person and covers the Driver Safety Program Certificate and all class materials.

Please register in advance as seating is limited. Register at the Summit Family YMCA, located at 1765 Hwy. 34 East in Newnan.

Hubbard Reunion Sept. 14

The T.L. and Elizabeth Hubbard Reunion will be Sunday, Sept. 14 at Carl Miller Park on Sewell Road in Newnan. The reunion will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

All relatives and friends are invited to come and bring picnic lunch.
