Prep Baseball: East Coweta stays unbeaten

The East Coweta baseball team is scoring runs in bunches, and it’s making the Indians hard to beat.

Thursday night their bats exploded again en route to a 9-2 victory over Northside-Columbus on the road.

The Indians stayed undefeated while having outscored opponents 40-12 en route to a 6-0 start to the season.

Against the Patriots, East Coweta scored a single run in the first, two in the third, but put the game out of reach with a sixth-run fifth inning.

The Indians were in control most of the way giving up three hits and two unearned runs, both coming in the bottom of the seventh

Zach McCurry started the game on the mound for the Indians, pitching into the fifth and allowing just one hit and striking out a batter.

Bryce Gemmel pitched the final two innings, giving up a hit and striking out one.

Offensively, Cameron Smith led the way for the Indians with three hits and two RBIs. Matthew Meyer finished the game with two hits and two RBIs.

Gemmel, Walton and Blake Lorow also drove in runs. East Coweta has a rematch with Luella on Monday at home.

Wednesday afternoon in Locust Grove, the Indians beat the Lions in eight innings.

Carrollton 6, Newnan 2: The Newnan Cougars dropped to 4-3 overall with a non-region loss on the road in Carrollton Thursday night.

No other information about the game was available at deadline.

Newnan was coming off Tuesday’s 7-5 victory over LaGrange at home. The Cougars continue non-region play on Tuesday at Northside-Columbus.
