Charter Financial announces earnings
Charter Financial Corporation has announced its earnings for the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2013.
The company reported net income of $2.3 million, or $0.13 per basic and diluted share, for the quarter ending Dec. 31, 2012, compared to $488,000, or $0.03 per basic and diluted share, for the quarter ending Dec. 31, 2011.
Improved net income was the result of lower non-interest expense and lower credit costs, partially offset by a decrease in non-interest income and net-interest income.
“We are pleased with our earnings improvement, the continued advances in our asset quality and the growth in our stockholders’ equity,” said Robert L. Johnson, chairman and CEO.
“These trends confirm our strategy of seeking organic growth in retail and small business segments and acquisition of those segments by purchasing other banks in attractive community markets. Our announced second step conversion will boost our already strong capital position and further sustain this strategy of purchasing smaller or weaker banks in need of a strong partner.”
