Tuesday Jan. 22, 2013 is the 40-year anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision to legalize on-demand first trimester abortion for any or no reason.
The Court ruled that an unborn child is neither a human nor a person, and therefore is not protected under the Constitution. A fetus, not seen as a separate entity in itself, merely functions as a part of the mother’s body. The Court’s decision established abortion as an alternative means of birth control.
Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, set a record number of abortions in 2012. Nearly half of Planned Parenthood’s income is from public funds.
One in three American women will have an abortion by age forty-five. Over 400 women have died having abortions over the past 40 years. There are 1.3 million abortions every year in the U.S. For every abortion, there are three births. The majority of women seeking abortions are unmarried.
Hobby Lobby is in danger of facing fines of around $1.3 million per day for defying the Department of Health and Human Services’ abortion/contraceptive mandate. This mandate requires employee health care plans to include abortion-inducing drugs. This new federal mandate went into effect Jan. 1.
Tim Tebow’s mother, Pam, was told by a doctor while pregnant with Tim, “An abortion is the only way to save your life.”
What can you do?
Vote. Forty percent of registered voters don’t vote.
Until Roe v. Wade is overruled, abortion will be legal in the United States. Christians should vote for pro-life candidates. Why? Jeremiah 1:5 says God chooses us, forms us, sets us apart, and appoints us all inside the womb. Psalm 139:13 says God knits us together in the womb. Isaiah 49:1 says he was named while in his mother’s womb. Genesis 1:26 says God created man in His image, therefore humans are treasured above all creation.
No matter what the Supreme Court says, the Bible makes no distinction between the personhood of the born and unborn (Luke 1:15, 41, 44; Luke 2:16; 2 Timothy 3:15). The previous scriptures (from Luke and 2 Timothy) refer to a child in a different stage of development, both inside and outside of the womb, yet Scripture uses the same word for each one.
The soul that exists outside the womb is the same soul that originated at the moment of conception inside the womb. Because God “gave me life” (Job 10:12), who are we to take it?
Volunteer. Christian women should be taking the lead at their local crisis pregnancy center.
Many women seeking abortions have been persuaded and funded by their boyfriend/husband/parents. They contact a pregnancy center considering their options – and for the first time they hear from another lady that life begins at conception.
Voice. If you don’t speak up for the unborn, who else will?
If you teach youth at your church – they must hear that life begins in the womb. They must hear the Scriptures previously mentioned. They must hear about abortion alternatives – such as abstinence and adoption. God has adopted His people (Ephesians 1:5).
Over 400,000 Americans died in World War II. Fifty-three million Americans are missing since January 22, 1973. The womb is the most dangerous place to be. Abortion isn’t about a woman’s right to choose. It’s all about whether you’re going to follow God’s Word when He states, “Do not murder” (Matthew 5:21).
Tomorrow is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. When you begin seeing people as souls in need of a Savior – it changes how you view life. God gives life and only He should take it.
