Carrollton-based Greenway Medical Technologies will partner with the University of West Georgia to sponsor the school’s new Athletic Operations Building.
A plaque honoring Greenway will be displayed at the building and a lighted Greenway sign is affixed the north side of building, making it visible to fans at University Stadium.
“The corporate partnership between Greenway and the University is a significant one,” “First, it represents the continuation of a deep and growing relationship between the community and UWG. Secondly, it provides a model of new funding support for West Georgia Athletics, a model that is being adopted by progressive universities across the country.”
“All of us at UWG are grateful to the Green family and all our friends at Greenway as they partner with us for the future,” said Dr. Bill Estes, UWG’s vice president for university advancement.
“We are of course very proud to assist the capital improvements brought by the new Athletic Operations Building, and pleased the university has chosen to honor us with this recognition,” said Greenway Chief Operating Officer Greg Schulenburg.
Schulenburg said about a third of the company’s employees are UWG graduates. Greenway has maintained close ties to the university, according to Schulenburg, who said the company has benefited from UWG’s “academic excellence.”
• Unity Elementary selling doughnuts for school trip
The Unity Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization is holding a doughnut sale to raise money for a school trip to Jekyll Island.
The school’s fifth-graders are making a trip to the Georgia coast in the spring. Kasey Calhoun, PTO president, said the PTO is pre-selling doughnuts to help cover the cost of the trip.
The pre-sale began Dec. 3, and money for orders will be due Jan. 9. The fresh Krispy Kremes will be delivered to the school in Luthersville on Jan. 11.

• UWG’s The WOLF No. 2 out of 585 stations worldwide
The WOLF Internet Radio placed No. 2 as the best station out of 585 participating stations worldwide for College Radio Day 2012.
The station also claimed titles for “Best On-Air Programming” and “Best Community Outreach” for the 2012 Spirit of College Radio Awards after a stellar performance on College Radio Day.
The WOLF Internet Radio is UWG’s radio station, run “For Students, By Students.” The station officially launched April 21, 2010 through the efforts of students in a radio practicum course and volunteers. The WOLF is designed to be an experiential learning lab for students.
College Radio Day is a day designed to raise greater international awareness of the many college and high school radio stations that operate around the world by encouraging people who would not normally listen to college radio to do so on one designated day.
• Student video contest offers $1,000 top prizes
A national grassroots group is offering high school students the chance to win $1,000 and other cash prizes in a student video PSA contest.
Population Connection, the nation’s largest grassroots population organization, is again hosting its “World of 7 Billion” contest. Students in grades 9-12 are asked to create a 30-45 second public service announcement that illustrates the connection between world population at seven billion and one of the following topics: Food security, wildlife habitat, or the global status of women and girls.
Cash prizes will be awarded to four winners in each topic area. Three grand prize winners will receive $1,000. Participating teachers will receive free curriculum. Deadline for video submission is Feb. 21.
