Twenty-two high school and middle school students of Allen Deyo presented a Christmas Joy Concert Dec. 9 at Lovejoy Memorial United Methodist Church in Newnan.

Mr. Deyo is Director of Music and the organist at the Lovejoy Church and teaches voice and piano in Coweta and Fayette counties. In addition to sharing their piano and vocal talents, a number of his students also shared music using other instruments which they are studying. To highlight these, Deyo organized and directed eight of his students in an instrumental ensemble on Michael Card’s song “Celebrate the Child.”

Other highlights of the concert included a vocal solo with student accompaniment, Carols on an ocarina, a “Nutcracker” piano duet, vocal solos, as well as solos on cello, string bass, flute, and trumpet.

Among those performing were young vocalists with experience in singing at the Apollo theater in New York and another in the Atlanta Opera.

Selections presented included “Little Drummer Boy,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Jesu Bambino,” and “Mary, Did You Know?”

Afterwards, students and their guests enjoyed refreshments at the church.
