Newnan songwriter receives first Grammy nomination

Newnan native and songwriter Adam Wright has earned a Grammy Award nomination for his co-writing of the song “So You Don’t Have to Love Me Anymore.”

Wright, son of Lamar and Cathy Wright, co-wrote the tune with Jay Knowles.

The song was recorded by Wright’s uncle, Alan Jackson, and is nominated in the Best Country Song category.

“This came out of the blue. We’re still in shock,” said Lamar Wright about the surprise announcement earlier this month.

Wright said he would hope to make it to the Grammy Awards ceremony, to be held Feb. 10 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

“He worked so hard,” said Lamar Wright about his son’s achievement. “It couldn’t happen to a better guy...I don’t care if he is my young’un.”

“You know, the first time I heard that song, I knew it was a great song,” said Alan Jackson upon congratulating his nephew. “I was proud to have it.”

“The first time I heard Alan sing it, it really put tears in my eyes and not just because I was hearing someone doing our song,” said Adam Wright.

“It was the emotion of having an experienced singer who could convey it...whose heart was connected with his voice.”

In addition to being a songwriter, Wright is also a talented singer. He teams up with his wife, Shannon, also a Georgia native.

The 55th annual Grammy ceremony will air live on CBS-TV from 8-11:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 10.
