Smokey Road Middle School’s Clark Atlanta Talent Search Academic Team placed first at the Georgia Association of Special Program’s Annual State Quiz Bowl Competition recently.

The team had an outstanding showing while competing against academic teams representing other colleges from around the state of Georgia, including the University of Georgia, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Savannah State and many others.

Smokey Road’s CAU team placed first in written exam, second in super quiz, second in spelling bee, and first place overall. In individual competition, Smokey Road seventh graders swept as Maxie Gates won first place in written exam, Roneesha Bowles second place and Chance Hicks third place.

Bowles also won second place in spelling bee. The team will go on to represent Georgia in national district competition in April.
