Coats, as well as hats, gloves, scarves and other cold weather gear for the needy, are being collected at the Newnan location of Hampton Inn.
Items can be dropped off at the hotel anytime, 24 hours a day, through Dec. 19.
A special event, Wine for a Cause, will be held Dec. 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. Cowetans are invited to attend and enjoy wine and light hors d’oeuvres while they drop off their donations.
Donations should be new or slightly worn, said Sandy Lee, organizer of the coat drive. “We don’t want to give anybody coats with holes,” she said. “Sometimes people drop off stuff with stains on it.”
Donations can be any size, from babies to adults, she said.
Lee, director of sales for the hotel, has already found homes for the donations.
She’s been working with local churches and non-profit organizations to find people who need the winter wear.
This is the second Wine for a Cause event. The first one was held in 2010, Lee said. After the coat collection is completed, she delivers the coats.
Lee hopes people will come out on Dec. 12, but if people can’t make it, “I still want them to participate if they can,” she said.
