State Patrol joins in Toys for Tots effort

From Staff Reports

Georgia State Patrol troopers will be out at the Newnan Big Lots store Thanksgiving morning to collect toys for the local Toys for Tots campaign.

Troopers will be at the Bullsboro Drive store in Shenandoah Plaza from 7 a.m. to about 11 a.m., and will also leave collection boxes there, said Sergeant First Class James Corbett, commander of the Newnan Post.

“We’ve already collected a bunch, which we have out in the lobby,” Corbett said, adding residents can also drop off toys at the post located on Turkey Creek Road next to the Coweta County Fire Station headquarters.

Colonel Mark W. McDonough, who heads up the state patrol, said the agency also will be offering child safety seat checks at some of the toy drives leading up to Christmas.

“Many of our department members have served in the Marine Corps, and we know firsthand the impact Toys for Tots has on helping others,” McDonough said.

“The child safety seat checks provide another way for us to give back to the community. We hope to not only brighten needy children’s holidays, but keep them safe as well.”

Donated toys should be new and unwrapped.
