East Coweta Middle School’s Technology Student Association received several honors at the TSA Fall Leadership Conference, held earlier this month on Jekyll Island.

Sixteen students represented ECMS at the conference, where Kayla Sims and Mary Thompson were presented the Statesman Award – one of the most prestigious honors bestowed on TSA members.

In addition, the ECMS team received the Research Award for their performance in First Lego League and the coveted Spirit Award for their teamwork during the Armada Boat Race competition.

Team advisor and technology instructor Blaire Booth, who was ECMS Teacher of the Year for 2011-12, said she could not be more proud of the students and their accomplishments at the conference.

Booth recently received a prestigious honor of her own when she was awarded the Teacher Excellence Award by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association.

During the TSA conference, East Coweta Middle students attended leadership sessions to further develop their public speaking skills and interview skills.

The team also attended technical sessions on a variety of events including flight, film and problem solving.

Sims, who serves as president of the ECMS TSA chapter, said her favorite part of the conference was “meeting new people and competing in the Armada Boat Race.”
