Mrs. Carol J. Shelton

Mrs. Carol J. Shelton, age 81, passed away, Nov. 11, 2012. She was born at Queen Victoria Hospital in Nassau, Bahamas, on May 14, 1931, to Thad G. and Marrion Faye Johnson. Carol was the third child of four. Growing up in Nassau, Carol’s love for horses began. She became a jockey, winning several major events. A photo-finish, on a quarterhorse named Gravel Gurdy, won her much notoriety. Carol worked for Eastern Airlines as a flight attendant in Miami, where she met her husband, Cpt. William Oliver Shelton. Carol’s two greatest loves were her family and the beach.

She was preceded in death by husband, Cpt. William Oliver Shelton; parents, Thad and Marrion Johnson; brother, Thad Johnson; and sister, Faye Suhl. She is survived by sons, Christopher (Chris) Scott & Delores Shelton of Sharpsburg, Kevin Harrison & Mary Ann Shelton of Newnan; and three step-children, Brenda (Shelton) & John Dunn of Newnan, William “Bill” Jr. and Betty Jo Shelton of Carrollton, Brian & Pat Shelton of Newnan; a sister, Joan Vaughn of Stewart, Florida; grandchildren, Tyler Shelton, Taylor Shelton, Tanner Shelton, Lisa Elrod Campbell, Kim Elrod, Tina Elrod Payton, Pam Shelton Dodson, William Oliver “Trae” Shelton III, Craig Shelton; many great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be Saturday, Nov. 17 at 11 a.m at Community Christian Church, 1717 Sharpsburg-McCollum Road, Sharpsburg, GA, 30277. Online condolences can be made at www.jcollinsfuneralhome.com .
