Northgate High’s competitive cheerleading team had a run of five consecutive state titles snapped during Saturday's GHSA Championships in Columbus.
But the team continued to showcase its talents as one of the best in the state while finishing as state runner-up after making the leap to Class AAAAA this year.
Northgate's squad finished behind only Houston County after making the finals with region rivals Whitewater, McIntosh and Starr's Mill. The four schools were all among six finalists in AAAAA.
“We have been pleased with the talent,” said Coach Sarah Frazier prior to the championships. “We have had great parents, and support from the administrators. The biggest thing is the work ethic. They come in day after day, they know it is not going to be given to them. The girls who have been here before, have shown the younger girls what they had to do to win, and the girls have jumped on the bandwagon.”
