Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity Inc. recently held a house blessing ceremony for their 54th Habitat home since since the local affiliate’s creation in 1994.

Tanisha Moss, the proud new Habitat homeowner, will reside in her new home, located in Moreland, with her grandmother, 11-year-old daughter, and 14-year-old son. The house blessing is a special sendoff for the family with best wishes for a happy and fulfilling homeownership experience.

“The blessing was a culmination of the homeowner and her family, volunteers, and staff. This represents God’s love in action,” said Melanie Frazier, NCHFH volunteer coordinator.

The Moss house blessing was a family event. Four generations of Tanisha Moss’s family members including her grandmother, father, children, aunts and uncles surrounded Moss.

The new homeowner’s uncle, Henry Teagle Jr., pastor of Faith Outreach Christian Center, gave the invocation and led the blessing and dedication. NCHFH staff and board said encouraging words about Moss and gave housewarming gifts.

A local Girl Scout troop donated baskets with household goods, a tomato plant and flowers. Participating members of Girl Scout Troop 67 were Amelia Cook, Laura Denton, Amanda McKnight, Hannah Provan, Tymberly Walker.

Moss, a single mother of two, had a family including her grandmother in need of housing. After completing a comprehensive qualification process, Moss was chosen to become a Habitat family partner because of her level of need, willingness to become partner with Habitat and her ability to repay the loan.

In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, Moss invested the required 300 “sweat equity” hours of her own labor – building not only her Habitat house, but the houses of other Habitat partners, and volunteering at the Habitat ReStore.

Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and made available with affordable, no interest loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses.
