Newnan’s UNIGLOBE McIntosh Travel agency is celebrating its 35th year in business.
Only 35 percent of small businesses are open after 10 years, said Marketing Director Janet Flanegan. “Not only has UNIGLOBE McIntosh Travel been open for 35 years, it has continued to experience sales growth each successive year,” she said.
The agency also has many employees who have been with the company for several years, including three with 20 or more years of service.
“I believe our success is a combination of many things: the ability to adapt and change our business model; providing second-mile service; great employees, and some luck,” said Mitchell Hicks, president and owner. “We also have excellent relationships with our travel partners who, in-turn, offer our clients the best possible travel experiences and great value.”
Hicks and his wife, Mary, moved to Newnan in the 1980s, and he worked in management/engineering consulting. Hicks developed a relationship with Bill Loftin, who was the owner of UNIGLOBE McIntosh. In the late 80s, Loftin offered Hicks the opportunity to purchase the agency.
Since that time, Hicks and his staff have grown the agency, which now has 19 in-house staff members, plus Hicks, and six who work from home. Hicks was also asked to join the prestigious 10-agency UNIGLOBE Travel Partners group, an innovative partnership created by top travel management experts across the U.S.

Cracker Barrel has new retail manager
Cynthia Ivey is the new retail manager of the Newnan Cracker Barrel.
Ivey has been with the company since November 2010, and was most recently retail manager in Kansas City, Mo. Before joining Cracker Barrel, she had more than 25 years experience in the retail industry.
As retail manager, Ivey is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day business of the retail store.

Howard part of agricultural leadership program
Jutt Howard of North Georgia Turf in Heard County was one of 22 professionals from across the state chosen to participate in the inaugural class of the Advancing Georgia’s Leaders in Agriculture program.
The program is housed in and supported by the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

Williams Million Dollar Club member
Realtor Rod Williams was recently inducted into the Realtors Million Dollar Sales Club, with a black tie, red carpet event honoring his achievements as both a real estate professional and community advocate.
Williams, a Newnan native and 1999 graduate of East Coweta High School, attends Elizabeth Baptist Church in Atlanta, is a member of the Urban League of Greater Atlanta, and donates time and money to numerous charities, including the Boys and Girl Club and the Knights Football Youth Football League.

GreyStone receives Seven Seals Award
GreyStone Power received the prestigious Seven Seals Award recently for the cooperative’s meritorious leadership and initiative in support of the men and women who serve America in the National Guard and Reserve.
Brig. Gen. Thomas L. McCullough presented the award on behalf of the Georgia Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
GreyStone’s service area includes portions of Coweta County.

Main Street Money program launched
It is that time of year when people are thinking of the perfect gift for teachers, friends, co-workers, the boss or employees. Main Street Newnan has announced its latest program for downtown and the community, Main Street Money.
Main Street Money is a gift certificate program that allows the customer to shop at any of the 26 participating locations. “This program is great for the person that is difficult to shop for,” said JoAnn Gentry, Main Street manager for downtown Newnan. “With the gift of Main Street Money they can choose to use their gift certificate in any number of downtown locations.”
She added, “And not only will they be happy with their gift options, you can feel good because you are keeping your gift giving dollars local.”
The gift certificates come in three denominations, $5, $10, and $20, and may be purchased at the Main Street Office at 6 First Ave.

Sequoia Golf adds new property
Newnan-based Sequoia Golf Group has added Canebreak Country Club in Hattiesburg, Miss., to its portfolio.
As part of the agreement, Sequoia will manage day-to-day operations and will oversee improvements to the golf course and other member facilities.
