A Service of Remembrance honoring the families of six local men who died on active duty military service since 1975 will highlight today’s events at Veterans Muster III at the Coweta County Fairgrounds.
The service will be held from 2-2:30 p.m. Those to be honored include Chad Coleman, Michael Stokely, Jeffery Blanton, Joseph Meadows, Adrian Mills and Nicholas Whitlock.
Among today’s activities:
Opening ceremonies are 10 a.m. on the midway field and include a parachute demonstration featuring combat veterans with the ceremonial flag and a flag presentation by the Northgate High School Air Force JROTC.
Starting at 10:30 a.m. will be displays of military memorabilia by area veterans on the fairgrounds plaza and midway areas as part of the Student-Vet Connect program organized and presented by the Newnan High School History Department.
Saturday events will also include paid rides on two different helicopters. Rides on a UH-1 Huey will be $50 per individual and $45 for veterans. Rides on an AH-1 Cobra helicopter will be available for $450 per individual or $425 for veterans.
The helicopter rides will be available starting at 11 a.m. and lasting into the afternoon, based upon ride demand.
Drill Team demonstrations by students of the Newnan High Air Force JROTC and East Coweta Marine Corps JROTC will be presented 10:30 a.m. and noon.
Muster III activities began Thursday night with a performance of the play “Letters Home” at the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts.
