Support local veterans during 2012 Muster III today and Saturday

Editorial

No place does more to support military veterans than Coweta County. Attendance at Veterans Day and Memorial Day events increases each year, and local veterans are routinely asked to speak or serve as special guests at civic clubs and school events such as the Student-Vet Connect programs at Newnan High School.

Our veterans are an important part of the community, and we make sure they know it. Today, the third annual Veterans Muster begins, and we urge all citizens to attend events taking place tonight and Saturday honoring all our veterans and paying special tribute to Cowetans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country while serving overseas in the War on Terror.

Those to be honored include Chad Coleman, Michael Stokely, Jeffery Blanton, Joseph Meadows, Adrian Mills and Nicholas Whitlock.

The theme of Muster 2012 is “Military Operations – Post Vietnam.”

Tonight’s event is a play called “Letters Home.” The play uses letters written by soldiers serving in the Middle East to illustrate the challenges and triumphs they faced.

Saturday events at the Coweta County Fairgrounds include displays of military memorabilia by area veterans, paid helicopter rides, and a ceremony at 2 p.m. honoring the families of Cowetans who died fighting the War on Terror.

We urge you to support our local veterans tonight and Saturday.
