From Staff Reports
The Piedmont Outpatient Center, a Piedmont Newnan Hospital service, will offer mammograms at a discounted rate of $75 throughout October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
According to the American Cancer Society, nearly one in eight women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. The staff at the Piedmont Outpatient Center recognizes that the key to beating the disease is catching it early, usually through a regular screening (i.e., breast self-exam or screening mammogram). Consequently, they offer this incentive every year to encourage women in Coweta and surrounding communities to get screened.
“It is important women get screened for breast cancer, regardless of their family history,” said Rhonda Winkles, Piedmont Outpatient Center manager. “Eighty percent of women who are diagnosed don’t have any reported risk factors, which include family history, race and ethnicity. This means that almost any woman is at risk for breast cancer, especially those over the age of 40.”
Located at 1755 Highway 34 East, Suite 1200 in Newnan, the Piedmont Outpatient Center offers appointments Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
To schedule a mammogram, call 770-254-3668 and ask for the October special. No physician referral is required; however, it is required that women being screened have a doctor to receive the screening results. Patients should bring a picture I.D. with them to their appointment. Cash, check and credit cards are accepted prior to the exam. The discounted mammogram price cannot be used in conjunction with insurance coverage.
