Mr. Jason Powell of Petals from the Past in Jemison, Ala., will be the guest speaker at the October Backyard Association (BYA) meeting scheduled for Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Coweta County Extension Office.

Powell earned a B.S. degree in Landscape Design Horticulture from Auburn University and a M.S. degree in Horticulture from Texas A&M. He began Petals from the Past in 1994 with the goal of providing educational information for visitors. The nursery encompasses 43 acres and includes display gardens, fruit gardens, growing facilities and an educational facility. Visitors can see mature plants growing in the display gardens and attend educational programs to learn about gardening.

Join the association as Powell shares information about many of the plants that you may have seen growing in your grandmother’s garden. These are the tough plants like antique roses, cottage perennials, herbs, and classical varieties of fruit plants that require no pampering. He will be bringing several of his favorites to sell.

The Backyard Association, sponsored by Coweta County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers (MGEVs), is a free seminar held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Coweta County Extension Office located at 255 Pine Rd. in Newnan. Please call the Extension Office at 770-254-2620 for reservations and to register for door prizes.
