The traffic signal at Greenville Street and Nimmons Street in Newnan recently received an upgrade from the Georgia Department of Transportation, and more work may be on the way.
GDOT replaced the older signal heads and increased the vertical clearance over the roadway, said Michael Klahr, Newnan city engineer and public works director.
Further upgrades are currently in the plan preparation/ design phase at GDOT’s office in Thomaston, Klahr said.
“There may be additional work coming, namely the installation of decorative poles and mast arms supporting the signals,” Klahr said. The signals would then match the ones downtown.
“As there may be utility issues, the GDOT does not have a firm plan completion date,” Klahr said. “They wanted to go ahead and perform maintenance on the location in the event the plan preparation/design and review process caused the project to be delayed.”
“While their crews were doing maintenance to the signal equipment, they replaced the signal indications,” Klahr said.
