Willis Road Elementary School raised $2,900 to support Newnan-Coweta County Meals on Wheels through a Coins for Cupcakes fundraiser that netted more than $11,000 county-wide for the MOW program.
Willis Road raised the most money from all the county schools participating in the drive, earning Grand Champion status for the third consecutive year. Noel Smith’s fourth-grade class also was the Grand Champion fundraiser for the third consecutive year.
The students from the following classes were the top fund raisers for their grade level: Pre-K, Cassie Clements; kindergarten, SteveAnna Williams; first grade, Lisa Anander; second grade, Katie Daniel; third grade, Stacey Bankston; fourth grade, Noel Smith; and fifth grade, Jennifer Whetstone.
The waiting list for Meals on Wheels grows longer each day – nearly one-third of the persons who qualify for Meals on Wheels cannot be served because of lack of money and volunteers. Students, parents, and grandparents participate in the Coins for Cupcakes fundraising effort to support Meals on Wheels each year.
