Since being sworn in as a member of the United States Supreme Court, it is reported that new Justice Sotomayor has been asking questions.
To put it more accurately, she asks questions at hearings and even quizzes fellow justices.
One reporter was bold enough to say, "She has voiced more questions than one or two male justices have asked in a period of years." Well, what did they expect? As a few bold husbands might exclaim, "That's what they get for inviting a woman to their deliberations!"
Women ask questions. That's what they do. They think. They want to get to the bottom of every issue and know the right answer to every question. It's not a new thing.
Women have been posing questions ever since Eve asked Adam: "What do you mean you think it is all my fault?"
There are certain questions wives continue to ask husbands. One familiar by its frequent use is: "How do you expect me to buy groceries and cover all household expenses on the small amount of money you give me?"
The most dreaded question that brings fear and trembling to the hale and hearty and manliest husbands is when the wife goes shopping for herself, comes home, says, "I am going to try on a dress I bought this afternoon and get your opinion."
"Uh-oh," the husband mutters to himself, "here it comes. She is going to ask me, 'Do you think this dress makes me look fat?'"
What's an honest man to say? He cannot risk answering, "No, it's not the dress. It's your big stomach." He can't say, "I refuse to answer because it might endanger my life." He might try developing a coughing spell, point to his throat, grab his jacket and rush out to get some fresh air. By the time he returns, maybe she will have decided to keep the dress because it's beautiful and she thinks it looks good on her.
