It has never been my feeling that the Lord wanted His followers to be somber, long-faced dreary advertisements for the faith.
Everything indicates otherwise. Jesus said, “I came that your joy might be full.”
Notice: He said “full,” not “dull.”
Again, He said, “Be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.” Christ’s joy was and is contagious. It is the kind of joy that says, “Come follow me!”
And millions of glad followers will testify that it has been a happy journey. Since coming to know, in a personal way, the Lord as the bringer of good tidings, they realize that the “best dressed people of faith wear smiles.”
And all who would be good witnesses in leading others to embrace the will and way of Christ must agree that their smiles are more important than any of the clothes they wear.
No doubt, there is much to cry about in today’s world. A quick glance at the news of the day proves there is no shortage of bad news.
However, it is wonderful to know there are glad people of faith who are doing all they can to bring a smile to the face of the world.
Truth is, sometime people are never more reasonable than when they are sincerely laughing -- for laughter, like many other blessings that come our way, is a gift of God.
As I see it, Christianity was never intended to be a subtraction from life, but a glorious addition to life.
And so the true expression of the faithful life is not a sigh of sadness, but a song of joy.
