With only a couple of days remaining until Christmas, last-minute shoppers are hard at the task of finding an appropriate gift for everyone on their lists.
To help them, I want to make certain they are aware of a new and unusual gift idea: A company has developed a limited edition “pizza-scented perfume.”
To each his own, I always say, but I feel compelled to ask the question: Did someone think it was enticing to smell crushed tomatoes and oregano?
This may not be the kind of gift that keeps on giving, but it could be the kind of perfume that keeps on smelling.
Please understand: I like pizza, but I had rather have it in my stomach than putting a dab or two behind my ears.
Anyway, I can imagine all kinds of possibilities for this product. Picture that good old boy, who likes to eat, out on a date with his girlfriend and saying: “I like your perfume, but for some reason it makes me hungry.”
Still, Christmas is a great and glad time when you realize all that it can bring into our lives.
On that night in Bethlehem a different kind of love came into the world -- the fragrance of love so giving and unselfish that it would touch hearts and lives around the world.
And no matter what happens in this perplexing, distressing world, a bright, brilliant and wonderful light still shines. As one translation of John 1:5 declares: “The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has never been able to put it out.”
