Is kick in the pants cure for man's ills

We have been blessed to travel a great deal. My work as Executive Director of the Georgian Baptist Convention took us to various mission points of the world, and I found it enjoyable to travel by car in the great state of Georgia and other states around our nation.

In two states, I recall seeing self-kicking machines, consisting of metal feet, covered with shoes designed to somewhat reduce the pain inflicted upon those who lined up to give themselves a kick in the pants.

Located outside popular restaurants, you could assume the position so that the machines could do what they were supposed to do, turn the crank and take your punishment.

The amazing thing was just how many felt the need of a kick in the pants.

Was this, in some way, an admission that if there is one thing this old, tired, confused and hectic world needs, it is a swift kick in the pants?

Of course, there are some who would say, if we are going to do the most good, this kicking-in-the-pants procedure needs to begin in Washington, D.C., our nation’s capitol.

As far as I can determine, there is only one drawback in attempting to give everybody in our seat of national and world government a sharp kick in the pants.

Truth is, with many, it would be impossible. How in the world can you kick people who are always “sitting down on the job?”
