Thinking, reflecting

One of the many sharp, incisive readers of The Newnan Times- Herald asked a pertinent question that needs to be considered by the powers-that-be in Washington, D.C., and in other high positions of leadership. “Can anyone figure out why we keep sending money overseas to countries and people who hate us, but love our money?”

That is an excellent question and is right up there with the other one that goes: “When are we going to realize and admit to ourselves that we can no longer afford to pick up the tab and pay the expenses of the whole world?”

.....

As schools opened a new term, a journalist asked a thought-provoking question: “If there were no schools provided to take children away from home for at least part of the time, would insane asylums be filled with harried, hurried and totally-exhausted mothers?”

It’s something to ponder.

Of course, loving mothers are quick to say, “When they go back to school, I miss my children; but if it didn’t happen when it did, I expect I would find the noise getting louder, the house getting smaller and my attitude becoming more desperate by the minute.”

As they begin school for the first time, some small toddlers are afraid to go, and mothers with a house full of children are afraid they might not go.

.....

On a lighter, brighter note: My wife, Mimi, had a bumper crop of homegrown tomatoes and Oh Mama! how I have enjoyed them.

Is anything better than a bacon, lettuce, tomato and sweet onion sandwich with the juice spilling all over the front of your shirt as you take every bite?

Wash it down with a large glass of sweet Southern iced tea; and as Jerry Clower said, “You’ve done flung a craving on me!”
