It happens every year in the good old summertime.
When the weather gets hot, we are smothered with all kinds of suggestions on what we need to do to cope with the heat wave.
To make it more comfortable to go outside in Japan’s blistering sun, Japanese men are dropping their inhibitions and turning to the feminine-like use of parasols.
As I understand it, men will not insist that their clothes must match the colorful, flowery design of the parasols they carry in their hands. I do remember in my boyhood parasols used by ladies walking in the heat of the day, but never saw a man choosing to shade his head in the same way.
Other suggested ways to beat the heat are: Wearing light, loose clothes which is difficult for some. Due to their excess weight, they have not worn anything that was what you could call “loose” in many years.
One woman seemed to come up with the best idea. It certainly appeals to me.
She said, “The temperature has topped 100 degrees this summer, and I discovered my own pleasant way of dealing with it. I don’t heat up the kitchen by using the stove.”
“No,” she continued, “I decided to eat ice cream for all three meals every day.”
That roar you hear in the background is from all those ice cream lovers saying to themselves: “Now why didn’t you think about that?”
Of course, the good nutrition folks may be a little upset. You might be able to hear some objecting to this ice cream diet all the way to your house. But don’t forget: There is another side to a bowl of ice cream. Anything that good can’t be all bad.
