My friend has a cat that needs a home. While I do like cats, I don't have a lot of luck with them. "Can you take him?" She asked innocently enough. I shook my head no, and sighed, knowing that while I would enjoy a sweet little cat to love, I have a questionable history with a few of them.

It seemed we'd never have things in place when the kids were growing up. There would be just one shoe, a ball glove but no bat, a bat but no ball. Once we lost Mr. Potato Head's eyes and it was all over for the poor little guy. Because seriously, what's a potato without eyes?

While introducing a child to a group of adults recently, I referred to the women as "Ms. Susan, Ms. Lindsay", etc. The conversation among the eight of us, aged mid twenties to mid sixties, revealed that the majority of us were raised to offer a title for any adult we addressed.

The Boy brought his little family for a visit recently. Our favorite (and only) grandchild Asher is now eight months old, which is a lot of fun for John and me. He is "talking" in a language only he understands, but whatever he is saying cracks us all up.

People are worried about their finances these days. Saving for the future is a big deal. Working hard to have savings, checking balances, watching stock exchange reports, it's all part of the everyday. Economic turns in the past many months prove that many of the most solvent planners have lost big time.

During a recent visit to our daughter Aubern Michelle and her husband Ian's house in Newnan, we had the opportunity to hang out on their new porch. The new porch is attached to a house they are renovating that is surrounded by several acres of country living.

God has blessed me with a heart for women. It's not like I have an overabundance of motherhood or girlfriend genes, but more like a compassion for the experience of being a wife, mom, sister, daughter and everything else that describes so many of us.

Mama had her way of doing things. She saved S&H Green Stamps, Gold Bond Stamps, always ordered from the Avon lady, tipped the guy at the gas station and wore gloves to church.

There's nothing like a good bargain, however it comes my way.

It isn't always easy to be joyous.

I had a radio interview on my calendar for July 9 at noon, so when my agent called at 11 a.m. on June 9, I was curious why I would hear from her so far ahead.

I remember pedaling as fast as I could, wind slapping at my ponytail, zooming at lightening speeds downhill then standing on the pedals to conquer the hilltop. College Park in 1968 was the best place on the planet for a kid to grow up.

Parents and grandparents are often concerned about what the children are going to do once school is out. They might want to revise their timing to include the last few days of school.

For our family, Mother's Day this year has new meaning. It is the first year that I will have the heart to reflect on my own mother's life, since last year's event came too close to her death and the sadness was too raw.

Someone recently said, "If you want me to know what you are doing, don't bother trying to reach me on Twitter. Do it the old fashioned way: send me a text."

Being in charge of my daughter's pets while she and her husband were on vacation had its moments.

When my daughter Aubern Michelle and her husband planned a vacation, I agreed to take care of their animals. That meant driving from Savannah to their home in Newnan, where they live with two dogs and two very, very strange cats.

It is tax time. As my dear friend and relative Sally says, "I would rather eat a bug."
