Tech, Georgia can't even agree on how many games they have played

Editorial

With all the Thanksgiving stuffing transferred from the table to the tummy, it's time for the 2009 edition of "Clean Old Fashioned Hate." Shortly after 8 tonight under the bright lights of Bobby Dodd Stadium on Grant Field, the Georgia Institute of Technology Yellow Jackets will be host to the University of Georgia Bulldogs.

In short it will be the Yellow Jackets vs. the Bulldogs in college football -- a heated rivalry that dates back to Nov. 4, 1893. The rivalry is so intense the two schools can't even agree on how many times they have played in the series. (Georgia does not count two World War II-era games, when the team's players were in the military.)

Looking at the series record -- using Tech numbers -- Georgia has 59 wins, Tech 39 with five ties. Tech's longest winning streak and the longest in the series was eight games from 1949-1956, which was during the Coach Bobby Dodd era. Georgia's longest winning streak in the series was seven straight games from 1991-1997 and again from 2001-2007.

That second Georgia streak was abruptly ended last year between the hedges in Athens, when Tech ran past Georgia in the second half and won 45-42.

This year's game favors the high-flying Yellow Jackets -- rated the seventh best team in the land with a high-powered rushing offense under second year coach Paul Johnson, and a 10-1 record. The Bulldogs are having their worst year under coach Mark Richt. Georgia will come to Atlanta with a record of 6-5.

Some prognosticators say tonight's game could be a blowout, that Georgia's often anemic defense can't stop Tech's offense. Others say you can toss out all the records in this big rivalry -- often the underdog takes the prize.

Whatever the outcome, the nickname "Clean Old Fashioned Hate" will survive.

Well while the UGA grads are unemployed the GT grads will have jobs. What is the sat score to get into UGA. I think it is a lot lower then GT.

Funny that UGA was the underdog, but GT still couldn't beat them. That just goes to show that SEC outranks ACC in talent HANDS DOWN!
