Sharing amusing current events

Before Christmas, I happened to be watching TV as President Barack Obama was shown in a store doing some Christmas shopping for his wife, daughters and mother-in-law.

When he had made his choices and moved to the cashier to check out, the camera panned in on him, and with credit card in hand, he smiled wryly and said, "I hope this is still good."

Later, a comedian said: "When his card was inserted in the machine for verification, a message flashed on the screen stating, 'Card not approved. You are already $11 trillion over your debt limit!'"

Another said, "The president could not shop in Chinese-owned stores." When he tried, he was told, "You cannot buy anything else from us until you pay off some of what you owe us."

Although many were already gone, before all remaining members of Congress left for the Christmas holiday recess, the payroll tax cut extension passed the House and Senate by unanimous consent, according to one news report.

It was a procedural move, allowing it to pass by vote of those still present. The few in number got it done!

As someone suggested: Makes you think and wonder how smoothly things might go and how much could be accomplished if many of them were permanently sent home to stay.

One of the news commentators said some of the candidates for the Republican Party Presidential nomination seem to be suffering from debate fatigue.

That was strongly indicated when the moderator asked one of the debaters, "Are you awake?"

I should imagine some of the weary participants in the long and tiresome debates may have asked themselves: "Am I still awake or already home in bed?"
