Here are some "F" words that are "G" rated: Free, family, fun and films.
You can roll all four words into one entertaining evening, if you attend the Powers' Coweta Classics film series this summer.
Here's the deal.
Powers' Festival, the big Labor Day weekend arts, crafts, entertainment and food event at the Powers' Crossroads site, is sponsoring the film series to help promote the upcoming festival and to spotlight local venues and movies with a Coweta County connection.
About 120 people sat in lawn chairs on the Moreland square July 11 to see "Tobacco Road," based on Coweta native Erskine Caldwell's book. Caldwell's birthplace home is a museum in Moreland. Organizers said it was a "picture perfect evening."
The second movie will be 8 tonight at Dunaway Gardens. "Fluke," which includes scenes shot at Dunaway, will be shown.
Other movies include:
-- "Murder in Coweta County," 8 p.m. on Aug. 1 at the Wadsworth Auditorium in Newnan. This is the story of Coweta Sheriff Lamar Potts and John Wallace, who was convicted of murder and executed. Johnny Cash and Andy Griffith star. The movie was based on the book by Newnan native Margaret Anne Barnes.
-- "Fried Green Tomatoes," 8 p.m. on Aug. 15 at the Gazebo in Senoia. Scenes were filmed in Senoia, Haralson, Newnan and Peachtree City.
-- Later in August the Centre for the Performing and Visual Arts in Newnan will be the site for an Evening of Animation featuring short films produced by students at the Savannah College of Art. The exact date has not been set.
This is a grand opportunity for families to have fun on a summer evening, and it's free. You can see the film, each at a special place in our county. You also will get the pitch for the upcoming Powers' Festival. Sounds entertaining.
