Parents, are you involved in your child's education?

Are you a parent? Do you have a child in school? Are you involved in your child's education?
If you answered "yes," it's time you receive a giant round of applause for a job well done.
Thursday was National Parent Involvement Day, a time to say thank you to parents who are involved in education. If you are involved, you are indeed to be commended. By being involved in your child's education you are ensuring your child will have a better chance at being a success.
Georgia School Superintendent Kathy Cox sent a statement to the media in Georgia this week applauding parents for their involvement in education.
"The evidence is overwhelming," said Cox. "Students who have highly-involved families get higher grades, have fewer discipline problems and are more likely to be successful throughout their entire life."
There is no more challenging and demanding job in the world than being a parent. The responsibilities are mind-boggling. There's so much to do as a parent, it would be easy to send a child to school and expect the teacher to ensure that child gets a good education.
But that's not the way it should be done.
As Cox says, "Life is demanding and there is almost never enough time to get everything done, but being active in your child's education is arguably the most important role a parent plays. Parents set the tone for education and are their child's best teacher."
We agree with Cox. Being involved in your child's education is one of the most important roles of a parent.
We have thousands of parents here in Coweta County who are actively involved in education. You are doing it right. Thank you for your commitment to ensuring the success of your children. They are our future.

I should say, I am COMPLETELY responsible for my childs education since I am his teacher. So yes, I am involved to say the very least.

My wife is a teacher and I would love to see some parents take a little responsibility for their children rather than say that is just their personality when they act up in class. Parents try to place too much blame on teachers when it is the responsibility of the parent to teach their children how to act. For parents who are already responsible, keep up the good work. Teachers appreciate parents like you.
