Food Lion is the new grocery store kid on the block in Newnan, with two stores now open and a third store scheduled to open in Grantville later this year.
The first Newnan Food Lion opened two weeks ago near the intersection of U.S. 29 north and the Newnan Bypass. On Wednesday the second local Food Lion opened in Sargent at 2005 West Highway 16.
Food Lion likes to bill itself as a neighborhood grocery store. In each of its Coweta locations -- U.S. 29 North, Sargent and Grantville -- the store has made its neighbors happy. Residents in all three areas have long felt under served by grocery stores. These people have talked about the need for more grocery choices in their neighborhoods.
Now Food Lion has arrived, and early reports are that the stores' neighbors are turning out to shop in big numbers. Food Lion management at the U.S. 29/Bypass location has indicated delight in how shoppers have received the new store.
Now that these three locations have new grocery choices, we suspect people on the south side of downtown Newnan and those near the Interstate 85/Sharpsburg-McCollum Road area would welcome a new grocery store. Both areas have long wanted more grocery shopping opportunities in their neighborhoods.

The new Food Lion stores are welcomed in the areas they serve. I just hope the county commissioners don't see this as further opportunities to allow un-checked development to occur in these areas as well. We do not need a dozen new strip mall built that contain more empty buildings.

I can not wait for the construction of the Grantville store to start. It is a real problem to have to drive at least 12 miles to get to any grocery store. I am excited to see some development coming to Grantville. Maybe we can get some other restaurants now.

Yes we do need a grocery store at I 85 Sharpsburg area. It would greatly help the residents in that area including me. The traffic is congested at certain times of the day like any other place.

For a west side resident, I am thrilled by the new Food Lion at Hwy 16/Macedonia Road! I was pleasantly surprised by the size and the wide range of products they carry. It is so nice to drive 5 minutes instead of 20-30, to get to a "real" grocery store, especially for a quick trip of milk, eggs or diapers. We have been in need for so long, and everyone I know out here feels the same way. The store is clean, pretty, and everyone there is so friendly and helpful. I moved out in the boonies for a country life, but am so happy to have something wihin a few miles for all the necessities of life! Thank you, Food Lion!!

I would also supect folks in the ROSCOE Rd. area, not folks in the Interstate 85/Sharpsburg-McCollum Road area, will be thrilled to make it home with ice cream before it melts! That end of the 34 bypass needs grocery stores.

I'm not sure I would consider 29 N & the Bypass close to Interstate 85/Sharpsburg-McCollum Road... When I think of Bypass.. I think of the 34 bypass... and they need a grocery store on that side of town.

I am quite pleased to finally see a nice, clean, decent place to buy groceries on the west side of our county. However, we most certainly do not need one at the 85/Sharpsburg-McCollum interchange. How ludicrous! That area is a traffic nightmare as it is! Plus, just how many grocery stores does one area need anyway?

"...we suspect people ... near the Interstate 85/Sharpsburg-McCollum Road area would welcome a new grocery store." As someone who lives near that interchange, I suspect people around here have no idea what you're talking about. As mentioned in an earlier comment, there are already two supermarkets (and a third one that's been standing empty for years) at Thomas Crossroads. Get a tenant into the old Save-Rite first, then maybe we can talk about building more stores out here.

A grocery store near Collinsworth Road would be wonderful as well. Maybe across from Frank's restaurant? Please?

Not everyone in the Sargent area is happy about the store. If I wanted a store near me, I would have moved near a store. I moved out that way because of the quiet and slow pace of life. I hope nothing else comes out here.

Fresh/Clean/Convenient Store. Keep the Sales coming. More importantly the Customer Service is awesome. Great Customer Service to (all) customers.
