Let's alternate the Georgia, Florida game between Jacksonville, Atlanta

Editorial

Attention all Georgia Bulldog football fans. And the handful of Florida Gator fans around here can listen up too.

How would you like for the annual Georgia/Florida football game to be played in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta instead of in Jacksonville?

That could happen. Here's the deal.

In two years the contract for the game will be up for renewal. Gary Stokan, president of the Atlanta Sports Council, is lobbying UGA Athletics Director Damon Evans to switch the game to the Dome once every four years when the new contract is signed.

UGA isn't talking about the idea. Most reaction so far has come from South Georgia folks who want the game to stay in Jacksonville because of the economic impact on the South Georgia coast and other areas below the gnat line. South Georgia Bulldogs consider the game their "home game" each year.

Many Georgia fans would like to see the rivalry game location changed. The Jacksonville site seems too much like a home game for the Gators, even though tickets to the game are split evenly between the two schools.

Many fans would like for the game to be moved to the campus stadiums. That would probably be our preference, but that's not likely to happen because of the success of the game in Jacksonville and because of the wishes of the South Georgia Bulldog crowd.

If you are not going to move the game to the college campuses, we would offer a compromise. Alternate the game between Jacksonville and Atlanta. Play one year in Jacksonville -- close to the Gators' campus in Gainesville, Fla. Play the next year in Atlanta -- close to the Bulldogs' campus in Athens. That would be fair to both teams, and it would allow South Georgia to have its game every other year.

The dawgs are on a losing streak that will last for years so they really need to play as many games as they can in other states. Just think what my Yellow Jackets are going to do to them this year in Atlanta!!!

As a current University of Georgia senior, I would have liked to see Florida travel to Sanford Stadium in recent years. Even with the game scheduled over fall break, I have never had the chance to make it to Jacksonville. But having it in Atlanta on occasion would be nice.

I don't know who let the Dawgs out but,the only ones I've seen have been on a leash for 18 yrs. Changing the venue won't change the out come. And by the way 52 - 17 in Athens in 95 ought to tell you it doesn't matter where the game is played, Dawgs stay on the leash. GO HOPPINGATOR

Disaster..there's NO tailgating in ATL

You would be willing to destroy tradition just so Atlanta can make a little tourism money?? Insane. 1) There is NO PLACE to tailgate Atlanta..a cement parking garage & disjointed parking lots in the middle of the downtown ghetto? No thank you..It's called the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party--let's keep it that way. 2) 12,000 less seats in the Ga. Dome for UGA/UF fans. That's a deal killer right there. The boosters I know already have a tough time getting GA/FL tickets WITHOUT a reduction in seats. Are you all out of your minds? This is a stupid idea..

Who cares about UGA anyways. FL is going to whoop them anywhere they play anyways. They could play on the moon and it wouldnt change the results.

UGA-UF

When Spurrier had the idea of moving the series to home and home back in the early 90's, UGA fans said that there was no reason to play it anywhere but in Jacksonville. Now, 15 out of 18 UF victories later, they've changed their minds. No UGA fan had a gripe back in the 80's when Georgia won all the time in Jax...you can't have it both ways. Keep the game in Jax and keep the tradition where it's supposed to be. Trust me, the last thing UGA needs is to be embarassed like they were by Florida last season and have it happen in their own state; not good for recruiting at all.

NO! Leave the game in J'ville. J'ville is really a south GA town!

I am a UF grad and fan. I cast a vote for alternating between Jax and Atl. Would be good for the game.

No Way!

Though UGA has had difficulty winning in Jax, UGA does realize a recruiting boost from playing in FL. Bama is already playing a game in the dome and UGA does not need the gators sniffing around in Atlanta ever other year. Fewer seats in the dome too. So No.
