As a new school year begins, it is appropriate to salute all of our teachers. They are again in the classroom for the new school year and committed to educating our children.
We have said time and again there's nothing going on in our community that is more important than the education of our children. We firmly believe that statement, and we also firmly believe strong classroom teachers are vital keys to the success of our students.
As important as those classroom teachers are, we must never forget the role of parents in our young people's education. Parents must be involved in the education process. They must be involved in the process at home, and they must be involved in the process at school.
When schools have outstanding teachers who are committed to education, and involved parents who will support the children and their schools, our children have a better chance to succeed in the classroom and in life.
Indeed, Coweta has some outstanding teachers. On Friday, two of the finest -- the local school system's last two teachers of the years, Clay Hildebrand and Carly Winstead -- spoke at the Newnan Rotary Club meeting.
Both teachers gave inspiring speeches about their work and about their passion for this school system and for the success of their students. Both are impressive individuals, the type of people we need in our classrooms instructing our children.
We salute Hildebrand, Winstead and all the fine teachers in Coweta schools. Thanks to each one of you for your commitment to our young people.
