F-22 best fighter in the world

I was saddened to hear production of the F-22, which is the best fighter in the world, was being canceled. Secretary of Defense Gates and the Secretary of the Air Force said the reasoning behind the cancellation of the F-22 was because it wasn't used in Iraq or Afghanistan; neither one of those countries has an Air Force. That is a foolish decision. America didn't use nukes in those countries either, so do we get rid of those? The commander of Air Combat Command in the Air Force and the Air National Guard wanted the F-22. I worked 22 years on fighters and bombers in the Air Force. The F-22 would have cost about $160 million each. The secretary of defense wants to buy 2,440 F-35s for about $120 million each. Quantity doesn't top quality. Comparing the two fighters: The F-22 -- no one has it or will ever get it. It is that good. The F-35, on the other hand, is being co-developed by 11 other countries, and other countries are trying to invest in it. First off, do you want to defend America with the same weapon that everyone else has? Not me.
The F-35 has already been beaten in computer simulations by the Soviet's top fighter. It is a one-engine jet, not two engines like the F-22. The F-35 is already having engines problems, and now the maker is looking for a alternative engine at higher costs. I remember when the single engine F-16 came into the Air Force. Chuck Yeager had recommended the twin engine F-20 Tigershark. He didn't like the F-16 because of its one engine and that it had too many problems. The government bought the F-16 anyway. The F-16 had all the problems Yeager said. Its electrical system was always shorting out because of wire chaffing, and the jet had engine problems. The jet was so bad from 1986-1989 that it was grounded. Those three years I was stationed in Germany, the Air Force crashed 12, killing 7 pilots. Why buy 2,440 one-engine jets that just about everyone else will have? Instead, buy 400 of the best fighters in the world that no one has or ever will have. Tom Quattlebaum Newnan
