A time to say thanks

This week is a chance to say “thank you” to the men and women you hope you never need.

They are the ones who put out the house fires, rip off wrecked metal to pull victims from smashed vehicles, bust into meth houses to nab drug dealers, provide medical aid and countless other duties. They do their jobs with pride, determination and good old American grit.

This week marks Public Safety Appreciation Week, a time we get to honor those who serve us faithfully.

On Friday, the 15th annual Appreciation Lunch will be held at the Coweta County Fairgrounds from 11:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m.

And there’s an opportunity for you to help. Donations are being accepted to cover the cost of the meals. Any funds left over go to the Newnan Coweta Public Safety Benevolent Fund.

That fund was established to help any public safety worker who faces a financial or medical hardship in his or her family.

“I am sure you will want to join us in showing your appreciation,” said Norma Haynes, chairwoman of the committee spearheading the event. “Any amount you can find in your heart to donate - from $5 to $500, or whatever, will be helpful.”

Checks may be sent to: Newnan Coweta Public Safety, P. O. Box 1113 Newnan, Georgia, 30264.

If you’d rather show off you dessert skills, one of the highlights is the donated homemade goodies. Feel free to be one of the committee’s “Sweet Friends” and bring your munchies to the fairgrounds by 10:30 a.m. on Friday.

And finally, let’s all show our support for these tireless men and women in uniform. We encourage you to put a “Loyal Blue” bow on your mailboxes or office windows to say thank you. The bows can be bought at area florists for a nominal fee or make your own.
