Sound Off - Friday, April 19

Best Sound Off: Congratulations to the writer of the Best Sound Off Ever! – the one about casting your bread on the water for ducks. Thank you for brightening my day!

..............

Who’s got the best? The UK had Maggie, India had Indira, Israel had Golda, but we’ve got Hillary.

..............

Armadillo town: Newnan looks like Texas instead of Georgia, with all those dead armadillos on the bypass. There’s one dead one that’s been in front of Dillard’s for about a week – real classy.

..............

Rants and Raves: I really like the range of “Rants & Raves” and I think you hit just the right note with just the right language. I like the range of “Sound Off,” too, although naturally I don’t always agree with the content of the remarks printed.

..............

It’s covered: “The media” is covering the murder trial of the Philly abortion doctor. There’s an article on page A2 of the 4/17 issue of the AJC. A search of the AJC website shows many articles. A web search shows stories from many sources, including ABC, CNN, MSN, and the New York Times.

..............

Wrong phrase: Poor choice of words: “Cowetans connected to Boston bombings.” It makes one believe they are suspects. Why not just say “Cowetans connected to Boston” and leave off the “bombings”?

..............

Only local: The media are covering the trial of the abortion doctor in Philadelphia. The Newnan Times-Herald may not be covering it, but you can certainly find it online very easily. The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, ABC, NBC, USA Today, etc., are all carrying that story. The Times-Herald focuses on local news, not murder trials in other states.

..............

Sealed test scores: Test scores make no difference at all when choosing people to put in power. We elected someone twice whose school records are sealed. We have no clue what his test scores were, so what possible difference does it make going forward?

..............

CRCT stress: Why is there pressure on teachers for their students to perform well on the CRCT? Principals pass this pressure along so they can get a bonus, while the teachers who actually did the work get more stress. Why isn’t that money put to use for the students?

..............

Rethink: To the genius who wants to send the message “Hiroshima Nagasaki” to North Korea: That would certainly convince them of the American goal to not allow North Korea to be a nuclear power. Is your advice “do as I say, not as I do”?

..............

Nut with a gun: When somebody takes a gun and shoots 26 people, it is a deliberate act. When a drunk drives and kills people, it is a non-deliberate continuation of stupidity. A nut with a gun doesn’t equate to a drunk with a car. Nobody’s taking away your guns.

..............

Keep the speed: The only vehicles that need to pass drivers doing the speed limit are police, fire, ambulance, etc. If you don’t have a siren or flashing lights on the top of your vehicle, drive the speed limit.

..............

Used car lot: There seems to be a used car lot or junk yard on Fischer Road, especially for yellow vans. Does putting these junk cars and yellow vans need a license or permit to keep them in your front yard? Not a nice sight driving by.

..............

More junk: After reading the Sound Off about the unfit condition of a house on Bexley Road, I called code enforcement about a deplorable situation on Major Road. I was told to submit a written complaint signing my name, address and telephone number. C’mon. What do you think an individual with no more respect for the neighborhood would do to the reporting individual in this day and time?

..............

More junk Part 2: To the owners of the neglected house in my neighborhood. Get rid of the two motorboats, two campers, rusty pickup truck, covered trailer and other junk. The flood lights burning 24 hours a day show the unkept yard and shrubs and the peeling paint trim on what was once a nice brick home. Where is your pride?
