Prejudice works both sides of the fence

Those of us who love our country should always seek to become part of the solution and not part of the problem. John Merrick's letter about "white fear is ebola to this nation" did not sound like a solution but an attempt to get anger stirred up. When we fan the winds of discord we become the problem.

It is true that racial profiling occurs no matter how hard we try to avoid it and injustice exists. If it’s not color it’s accent or some other clue that it’s them not us. Human nature must be fought and replaced with love and mutual respect. Ferguson, Missouri, could use some racial balance in the city government and police department, but that will not solve the problem without respect for each other.

Thugs came in from the outside along with others, like vultures, not interested in the good of the local people but in their own agenda. The real heroes were those who linked arms in prayer for peace in their community.

It is a tragedy when anyone needlessly loses their life. Every life is precious. Hopefully, when clear heads examine the available facts justice will be done and the community healed.

Prejudice works both sides of the fence any time we have a "them and us" attitude.
